Lowe hitting new heights

Rugby League: IN-FORM Waterhead maintained their excellent run in the National Conference League Interim campaign, seeing off Crosfields 20-4 on home turf thanks in no small part to a stellar performance from hooker Dale Lowe.

It was a battle though, with the visitors taking a 4-0 advantage into the half-time break thanks to a try from Phil Bannon after a flowing move.

A strong opening to the second period set the tone for the Peach Road side's comeback.

Mick Diveney crossed and Carl Sneyd's conversion gave Waterhead a narrow lead which was embellished when Terry Fitzgerald forced his way across, Sneyd goaling again.

Lowe scampered all-but the length of the field for an interception try which killed off Crosfields hopes, Sneyd converting and adding a late penalty for good measure.

The result keeps Waterhead on course for qualification from Group 'F' — with Oldham St Anne's now two points adrift in third place.

Saddleworth Rangers gained only their second win, seeing off Elland 38-0 at Shaw Hall Bank Road.

Jack Bradbury and Jack Brennan crossed in the opening quarter-hour, Bradbury also adding a goal.

Danny Bowker, Danny Attersall and Chris Conway helped accumulate a 26-0 interval lead for the home team.

Elland battled away after that but further tries followed for Marlon Miller and Bradbury, the latter player ending up with a points haul of 18 including five goals.
