HOCKEY:

TITLE favourites Didsbury Northern inflicted a first defeat of the season on Oldham's women's hockey team.

The 2-0 scoreline drops Oldham to seventh place in the North Women’s League Division Two — but there was enough in the performance to provide plenty of hope.

A goalless first half was evenly contested, Oldham putting in one of their best efforts of the season.

But the league leaders scored two goals from short corners in the second period, despite the best efforts of player-of-the-day, goalkeeper Jen Green.

A SCORELESS home draw with Didsbury Greys provided Oldham's second team with a first point of the season in Greater Manchester Division One.

Chidi Onuoha was particularly impressive in a strong defensive effort, withstanding long periods of pressure from a good Greys outfit. Despite remaining bottom of the table, better times could now be around the corner.

OLDHAM'S third team moved into the second stage of the All Divisions Cup with a 2-0 win over visiting Tameside.

First-half strikes by Rachel Lamb, from a short corner, and Sorcha Faulkner, from a penalty flick, gave Oldham the cushion they needed.

Tameside pushed on after the break but a strong defensive effort secured the win for the hosts.
