Hollinwood’s great chance to break duck

RUGBY: HOLLINWOOD have a big chance to open their account in the North-West Counties League this weekend.
After six consecutive losses, the local outfit find themselves bottom of Division Three.
But that could all change on Saturday as they visit the team directly above them in the table, Rylands Sharks ‘A’, who are also searching for their first win of the season. Despite a big effort, depleted Hollinwood slipped to a 68-0 defeat at West Bank Swans in their most recent clash.
It was the second time in as many games that the local outfit had been “nilled” after they lost 60-0 to Eccleston earlier in the month. But the scoreline was harsh on Hollinwood, who were without six first-choice forwards for their trip to Widnes, because of injuries and work commitments.
The contest was as good as over at half-time, with the hosts putting 36 points on the board. Stand-in prop forward Kevin Jenkinson was off the field at this stage, nursing a dislocated shoulder.
Hollinwood, skippered by Ian Hunt, refused to let their heads drop, with every player giving 100-per-cent. Mike Richmond put in a big game in attack and defence, while Andy Gorey and Peter Davies worked hard, both players saving certain tries with last-ditch tackles.
FITTON Hill Bulldogs were unable to raise a team against Widnes St Maries in round one of the BARLA Lancashire Cup. The hosts were awarded an 18-0 win and a place in the next stage of the competition.
