Sweeney set for Northants deal

CRICKET: WOODHOUSES bowler Sam Sweeney is on the verge of penning a two-year deal with Northants.
The 21-year-old featured for the LV= County Championship club’s second string last term, before making his first team bow in an impressive five-wicket Clydesdale Bank 40 victory over Warwickshire at the end of August.
He took no wickets for the loss of 31 runs. Right-arm medium pace man Sweeney, who hails from Preston, enjoyed two successful seasons at Woodhouses.
A spokesperson for Northants said: “Sam is expected to sign a two-year deal in the next few days.
“He has impressed everyone at the club and can expect more first team action.”
His involvement at county level rendered him ineligible for the Persimmon Village Cup victory over Rottingdean at Lord’s in September.
But in one of his final appearances he claimed eight for seven as hapless opponents Denton were dismissed for just 18 in the Lees Brewery Lancashire County League Division One.
