Angling: AFTER several close calls, what is believed to be the first 100lbs net has been recorded at an Oldham fishery match.
Andrew Mitchell, of Gilders, hit the magic ton mark in a Chadderton Mill AC Dave Slattery memorial series qualifier.
And he did it in style, with 30lb of ide on maggot up in the water before switching to pellet at four metres for some good carp in a huge 101lb 14oz.
Paul Hill, the runner-up, must have thought he had walked away with the match, but he had to settle for second-best with an impressive 81lb bag.
He also landed 30lb of ide before changing to paste at six metres for carp.
Jim Evans, in third place, opted for worm and caster up in the water and then shifted to meat at nine metres for a 72lb catch of carp and ide.
THE Todmorden AS Trophy match on Croft Fishery went to Chris Oliver, who used the pole and pellet approach for 35lb 8oz of carp.
Pete Mottram was second on the day with 17lb 5oz of carp and ide. He opted for the pole and meat approach.
Tom Barlow, in third, enticed a four-carp net on pellet for 14lb. Meanwhile, Dave Chadwick bagged first place in the Todmorden AS open match on the Littleborough lengths of the Rochdale Canal.
He emplyed bread punch and caster for a superb 11lb 7oz catch of mostly roach.
Runner-up Steven Crossley used similar tactics to tempt 7lb 9oz of roach and the odd skimmer.
Tom Brownhill, in third, used the pole and squatt for 5lb 5oz of small fish.
DEREK Hudson claimed top honours in the Cranberry AC match on Fields Farm Fishery.
Opting for maggot bait on his top five sections of pole, he landed 21lb of small carp.
Second on the day was Mark Eaton Dykes with a level 20lb mixed bag, which fell to banded pellet on a short pole. Next-best Jim Wild had an 8lb 8oz mixed bag on maggot and pellet fished short and long.
THE Monarch AC Winter League match on the club water went to Dave White, who used the caster approach for 25lb 9oz of carp, roach and skimmers.
Craig Bradford, in second place, registered a 19lb 15oz net made up of carp, skimmers, roach and chub on maggot. Dave Ireland was third with 16lb of skimmers, roach and ide on chopped worm and caster.
Mick Diskin emerged victorious in the latest Monarch AC Winter League match on the club water.
He had 20lb 3oz of carp, ide and chub on maggot.
White had to settle for second best this time with 17lb of ide and chub on caster baits fished at all depths. Pete Molloy was third with 12lb 8oz of crucians, chub and ide.
SIMON Dixon landed the Cranberry AC match on Fleets Dam. He employed pellet and maggot baits on the pole for a 15lb mixed bag of skimmers and silvers.
Steve Eaton-Dykes was second with a 9lb 10oz mixed bag, followed by Chris Bold’s 7lb net on maggot and caster.
