FOOTBALL: HEYSIDE exited the Huddersfield and District League FA Challenge Cup in the first round following a 4-0 defeat at Scholes.
The visitors produced a bright performance in a goalless first period. But they conceded two goals within five minutes of the restart, and the home outfit bagged another two in the dying minutes.
There was better news for the reserves, who made it into the second round of the MCFA Amateur Cup courtesy of a 2-1 win against Droylsden Youth Centre reserves. Daniel Robertson and Jake Warburton netted.
LEADERS Coppice United ‘A’ roared to a 6-0 win over Rifle Range Royle Blues in the D & J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League Jack Abbott Premier Division, thanks in no small part to a Steve Barrow hat-trick.
Shabir Ali added two goals, while Muzaffer Ali also netted.
Bottom side High Crompton lost 1-0 at Red Star, for whom Mark Buckley got the winner from the penalty spot.
Paul Badby and Gareth Armstead scored for Fitton Hill in their 2-1 defeat of high-flying Rifle Range ‘A’. Limeside King George saw off Royton FC 4-2.
On Sunday there are only six fixtures, as the rest opted to postpone their matches due to the Manchester derby.
