SHAW Cricket Club are back in next season’s LCB Cup. The Holebottom Clough outfit replace Friarmere in the first-round draw.
Shaw were originally denied a place in the competition after they were deducted three points in the end-of-season match against Austerlands.
That meant Friarmere were promoted to fifth — the last qualifying spot — with Shaw a point behind in sixth.
Shaw appealed against the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s decision, but their plea was rejected. But both sides’ results from 2011 were checked for any errors, and it was discovered that Friarmere had been unintentionally awarded two extra points in a match early on in the campaign.
As a result, Shaw are back up to fifth place, with Friarmere back to in sixth.
John Morris, chairman of Friarmere, said: “Everyone at the club is naturally disappointed as we had a good run at the end of the season.
“However, we’ve got no qualms about it as mistakes can happen. Trevor Harrison, the league secretary, sent us a letter and we’re satisfied with the explanation.”
Shaw president Mark Stafford added: “As far as we are concerned the matter has now been put to bed.”
