TABLE TENNIS:

SEVEN-year-old Amir Hussain made an instant impact on the Oldham Table Tennis League scene.

The junior starlet, who has own Chinese professional coach and featured on the front page of last Friday’s Chronicle, bagged two wins on his debut for Hollinwood ‘G’.

But he was unable to prevent his team slipping to a 6-4 defeat at St Savours, Alex Reilly and Josh Poole replying for the Division Five pacesetters.

Owls ‘B’ just got the better of Coldhurst ‘E’ 6-4, thanks mainly to a maximum from Philip Tamworth.

In Division One, Honeywell Lane ‘A’ overcame Hollinwood ‘A’ 8-2 in a marathon contest, winning six of the seven sets which went the full distance. Simon Hardwick was unbeaten on the night.

The match between Rosehill and Honeywell ‘B’ ended all square, with Phil Ashworth and Andy Perry from the former and Steve Barber and Tommy Ryan for the latter enjoying two victories each.

Grotton ‘A’, with two wins from Dave Morris plus the doubles, shared the spoils with Hollinwood ‘D’ in Division Two.

Paul Hutchinson and Steve Hathaway repeated the feat for Hollinwood.

High-flying Uppermill ‘A’, without the services of Dave Grundy, were also held to a draw against Honeywell ‘C’, who were aided by a Paul Carter maximum.

The in-form Richard Tamworth was unbeaten for Owls ‘A’ in a 5-5 draw against Division Three leaders Honeywell ‘D’.

Tamworth recorded excellent victories over Rob Carter, Paul Carter and Howard Travis.

A maximum from Liaqat Ali and double wins from Ian Cockcroft and Dave Varney earned Deaf ‘A’ an 8-2 win against Werneth ‘E’.

Division Four leaders St Matthews beat a strong Uppermill ‘B’ team 7-3, with James Chappell maintaining his unbeaten record.

Uppermill’s Callum Allman lost for the first time this season, in the fifth to Howard Meadham.
