Top-flight scalp for Buckley’s boys

CHADDERTON are through to the Vodkat North-West Counties League Cup third round after a superb 2-1 victory over top-flight Padiham.
Two goals in three minutes from a Danny Shaw header (11) and close-range Keith Melvin effort (13) put the NWCL Division One side on their way.
Jordan Hulme pulled one back for the visitors after 53 minutes, but Paul Buckley’s side held on for the win.
Paul Buckley said: “We are over the moon. I think the fact we started so well gave us a platform on which to build.
“We were hanging on at times in the second half, but to beat such a good team with so many youngsters in our side due to injuries is a proud achievement.”
RICHMOND Botchley scored an own goal on his debut as Oldham Boro lost 3-2 at home to Ramsbottom United in the second round of the League Cup.
Joel Pilkington twice cancelled out Mark Coyne strikes (18 and 66) before full-back Botchley saw the ball bounce off his knee and into the net with nine minutes remaining.
Boro boss Tony Mills said: “Richmond was our best player so it is such a shame, but we played well and are not too down.”
MOSSLEY squandered a 3-0 lead and eventually lost 4-3 at home to Durham City in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.
The Lilywhites seemed to be cruising to victory at Seel Park.
In-form Harry Noon scored after a quarter-of-an-hour and two minutes later Joe Heap doubled the advantage.
And when Stephen Halford bagged a third for the hosts five minutes after the break, there seemed no way back for their opponents.
However, Amar Purewal pulled a goal back soon after and his brother, Arjun, further reduced the deficit on the half-hour mark.
Mossley could hardly believe it when Billy Greulich-Smith equalised with 13 minutes remaining, and their misery was compounded with 80 minutes gone when Gary Brown scored what proved to be the winner.
