SWIMMING: CROMPTON Classics sealed the runners-up shield in the ‘A’ final of the Junior Jubilee League at Radcliffe.
A slow start culminated in a disqualification in the third event, but the points started flowing once swimmers got into their strokes.
By the halfway mark Crompton, coached by Jane Cook and Heba Rousan, found themselves leading the pack with 58 points to their name, ahead of Howe Bridge (51), hosts Radcliffe (50) and neighbours Royton (48).
Travelling supporters were on the edge of their seats.
After a string of closely-contested swims, Royton climbed to third position and Crompton missed out on top spot by a solitary point — finishing behind Howe Bridge with 109 points.
But it was still a memorable occasion for Crompton, who qualified for the ‘A’ final after a fantastic run of form in the league.
Final standings: Howe Bridge 110, Crompton Classics 109, Royton 99, Radcliffe 97.
A club spokesperson said: “Thanks to Jane and Heba for assisting at poolside and to all parents who travelled to support the club and swimmers.
“A big congratulations to all who have taken part and represented the club in the Junior Jubilee League this year.”
