Angling round-up by JAN VERBRUGGEN
LEADING lights from the local scene are gearing up for the Chadderton Mill AC Winter League, which starts on Sunday week.
As far as I’m aware, it is already booked up. Considering the brilliant sport on offer, that is not a surprise.
Matches take place every other Sunday.
THE final match in the Todmorden AS Trophy series is at Croft Fishery on Sunday. The draw is up to 7.45am, with fishing from 8.30am to 1.30pm. To book, call (01706) 374689 or 07543 883714.
Meanwhile, the Todmorden AS Christmas match is at Croft and Townhouse Fishery on Sunday, December 11.
The draw is at the Falcon Hotel, Littleborough, up to 9am. Fishing is from 10am to 1pm.
Sandwiches and drinks of tea and coffee will be available at the draw.
The match is ticket only and they are available from Tight Lines in Shaw, Rochdale Angling and Macks Tackle or by post from Ray Barber, 4 The Coppice, off Landsdowne Close, Burnley, BB11 2LT.
Tickets, which are £12, include pools and a potato pie supper after the match.
Prizes will be presented in the pub at about 3.30pm. All competitors will receive a prize.
Todmorden AS 2012 memberships will be available in shops from mid- December.
CENTURIAN AC’s annual meeting is on Thursday, November 24, at Springbank Bowling Club, Queens Road, Chadderton (8pm).
All trophies should be returned and subscriptions are now due. For further details, contact Dave on (01706) 849853.
A GROUP of anglers, who are looking to join up with another club as falling numbers has meant they are struggling to fill their matches, have released their calendar for 2012.
There are five places available and dates are —
May 13, Partridge Fisheries on Marsh Canal; May 27, at Tarvin Sands on Match Canal; June 3, Brookside Fisheries on Kingfisher pool; June 10, Fields Farm Fishery on Big Beam; June 17, Charity Farm on pool four; July 8, Partridge Fisheries on Spey Canal; July 15, Fir Tree Fishery on the new match canal; August 5, Blundells Fishery on East Canal; August 19, Cornfield Fishery on the match lake; September 2, Cornfield Fishery on the match lake; September 23, Blundells Fishery on Ash Canal.
Apparently, anglers pay for their pegs up front, which is how they are able to book matches for the following year. Peg fees are £69, which is super value for money.
With matches no more than 60 minutes away, fuel costs are kept to a minimum.

SPENT a few hours on the Rose of Lancaster length of the Rochdale Canal and was rewarded with a few fish.
My starting plan at this time of year is to plumb up and find where the water starts to go shallow and feed a cup of liquidised bread.
Bites came almost immediately, with a roach a chuck for the best part of two hours.
Venue Guide
Denshaw Vale: A cracking little water with a few fish always willing to feed. Memberships are available. For more details, contact John on (0161) 665 1779 for details.
Ogden Reservoir: Big bream showing well. Plenty of roach feeding but pike a problem for the bream and roach anglers. Pike anglers are enjoying good sport. Day tickets available at Tight Lines, Shaw, or on the bank.
Huddersfield Narrow Canal: It has not been a great year on this canal. Greenfield area may be worth a try for small fish, with pinkie and bread punch the best baits. Day tickets available on the bank.
Rochdale Canal: Pick the right peg for a great day’s fishing. There are plenty of silvers to go at. Bream and tench still feeding.
Chadderton Mill Lodge: Maggot or caster out for ide and pellet close in for good sized carp.
Park Lake: Silvers on most pegs. Day tickets on the bank.
Diary Dates
Monarch AC winter series: members only matches on the club water. For further details, contact Dean on (0161) 213 0539 or 07518459714.
Every Sunday: Pilsworth Fishery open matches. Draw 10am in the car park.
