WITH 12 points up for grabs due to a double fixture week, there was potential for substantial movement in the Pet Au Purrs Oldham Amateur Snooker League.

The first fixtures saw leaders Little Cot ‘A’ travel to Springbank to take on their ‘A’ team. And they left with their tail between their legs after suffering a 6-0 whitewash. Springbank ‘A’ then beat Three Cs ‘B’ 5-1 to go top.

Meanwhile, Martin Kennedy’s break of 40 in the second frame for Cot ‘A’ against Deaf ‘B’ levelled the scores at 1-1.

And there was no separating the teams as they went on to share the spoils in a 3-3 draw.

G Dawson’s break of 36 in the second frame got Moss Inn off to a great start at high-flying Chadderton Reform and, boosted by that opening, they went on to win 5-1.

Despite a break of 30, Geoff Hill (Crompton Cons) was unable to overcome CBC’s Graham Wilson, who battled hard to take his frame by a slender four points. Crompton came out on top overall, winning 4-2.

OLDHAM Snooker Academy ‘B’, the reigning Manchester League champions, enjoyed a fine 6-1 win at Belle Vue with frame successes for Tanveer Hussain, Kamran Afzal, Abu Miah and Shuja Riaz.

The ‘A’ team defeated Cheadle Sports Club 6-1 at home thanks to wins from Ian Atherton, Sajid Zamurd, Martin McGuiness and Craig Atherton.

But the performance of the night came from Academy ‘C’, who overturned top-of-the-table Wythenshawe RBL 5-2 at home. Nasser Khan, 17-year-old Omar Ahmed and Amir Nazir (39 break) were successful for Academy.

The ‘D’ team lost 5-2 at Hazel Grove Cons despite wins for Tufayl Ahmed and Kamal Hussain.

THE Nigel Bond Snooker Exhibition takes place at the club tonight, starting at 7pm. Entry costs £5.

TARA Leisure go marching on in the Saw-Tech Shaw Snooker League, bowling over Cricket 5-1.

Moss Inn just managed to draw against Comrades ‘B’ thanks to G Bramwell, who made a break of 50.

Other good breaks came from G Robinson (Comrades ‘A’, 53) and L Monkton (Royton Cons, 31).

WITH both Yorkshire Ward teams held to 3-3 draws, Austerlands 2 narrowed the gap at the top of the Saddleworth Snooker League.

Austerlands were in great form, whitewashing Mossley 2.

And it was a good night for the club as Austerlands 1 had a 5-1 victory over Mossley 1.
