RUGBY: OLDHAM St Annes snatched a thrilling 32-30 win over Saddleworth Rangers in the National Conference League Lancashire Alliance, thanks to a last-minute converted try.

The visitors had the upper hand in the first quarter, running in three converted tries from Lars Haigh and a brace from Jack Holden. Jack Bradbury kicked the goals.

Player-coach Dave Sweeney opened the scoring for Saints five minutes before the break, and there was still time for Jordan White to go over. White also landed both conversions. The home side reduced the deficit to a couple of points when Sean Thomas touched down in the corner.

And Saints were in front moments later, White splitting the Rangers defence and running in from 60 yards.

Prop Michael Smith, after being denied a try on the hour mark, then went over for Saints, White adding the goal. But Rangers didn’t lie down: converted tries from Jimmy Rogers and Danny Bowker in the last 10 minutes looked to have sealed victory. But winger Niall Collins squeezed in on the last play and White goaled from the touchline to secure Saints the spoils and the double over their local rivals.
