Angling: DARREN Webb hit the ground running in the opening round of the Chadderton Mill AC Winter League on the club water.
The Medlock Road AC rod weighed in a 31lb net made up of two carp and plenty of ide enticed by pellet, caster and chopped worm. Graham Mitchell (GTI Gilders), in second place, bagged an all-ide catch of 25lb 8oz from peg two. He used maggot at various depths.
PAUL Wilkinson pocketed top spot in the latest Todmorden AS Trophy match on an in-form Croft Fishery. He tipped the scales at 41lb 4oz, with his carp and ide net falling to the pole and maggot.
John Mellor was second-best with 38lb 8oz of carp on the pole and pellet.
The previous Todmorden AS open match, fished on the Gasworks to Sandholme lengths of the Rochdale Canal, went to Darren Taylor.
He had a 13lb 9oz catch made up of a small carp and some bream on the caster down the middle.
Daz Shaw, in second place, used an almost identical approach for 4lb 15oz of skimmers.
Todmorden AS are staging open matches every Saturday on various lengths of the Rochdale Canal.
This weekend’s match is on the Bakehouse to Short lengths. The 9am draw is at Todmorden Tackle Shop, with fishing from 10.15am to 3.15pm. Tickets are £15 all in and to book, contact Simon Walton on 07896 237224.
Meanwhile, Todmorden AS subscriptions were agreed at their annual meeting. Senior subscriptions are available at £36 until January 31, after which the figure rises to £46. Women’s, intermediates and OAPs fees are £24 until January 31, after which the charge rises to £32. Juniors pay £10.
Passport-sized photos are required for the new membership cards and can be fixed at point of purchase or before fishing. Members must not take dogs on any Todmorden AS waters while fishing. The proposal to ban barbed hooks was defeated, so whisker barb hooks are allowed.
MICK Diskin landed the latest Monarch AC winter series match on the club water. He attracted carp, ide and roach on pole and maggot for 26lb. Runner-up Dave Bradford was some way adrift, with his ide, roach and skimmers net, tempted by pellet, weighing in at 6lb 1oz.
VICTORY in the Socials AC match on Tyle Lodge went to Peter Jackson. He boasted a superb net of ide, roach, chub and a 14lb common carp on the pole and waggler for 24lb 4oz. Paddy Decoursey was second with 11lb 6oz of roach, chub and carp.
CENTURIAN AC’s annual meeting is being held on November 24 at Springbank Bowling Club, Albion Street, Chadderton (8pm). All trophies should be returned and subscriptions are due. Details, 01706 849853.
