Angling:

BOB Harrison (Team HB) has a cracking record in this area and one of his favourite winter venues, Pilsworth Fishery, saw him come out on top once again.

Fishing pellet and maggot, he had a 33lb mixed bag which included quite a few carp.

Mike Beattie was second with 20lb, followed by Kevin Crowshaw with 14lb.

LATEST Todmorden AS open match produced a win for Paul McMillan, with his caster fished at 13 metres accounting for some good quality roach and skimmers. Steve Ashworth, a regular money winner, took second with bread punch fished at nine metres netting him more than 200 hundred roach.

Steve Broadbent (Halifax) won the Todmorden AS open on the Derdale length of the Rochdale Canal with a 2lb 8oz perch the feature fish in an all-perch net. He used chopped worm and caster down the track and weighed in at 4lb 8oz.

Second-placed Simon Walton (Maver NW) had 150 small roach which fell to bread punch fished at four and six sections of pole, tipping the scales at 3lb 15oz.

Tom Barlow was drawn near to Walton in the narrows where he, too, got among the canal’s small fish, catching 3lb 10oz for third.

NORTHERN AA are running open matches almost every week on various canals and their latest was fished on the Marple length of the Macclesfield Canal, where Brian Meadows took first place with 5lb 10oz of skimmers and roach taken on caster fished tight across.

IS there a more confident angler than Royton’s Keith Smith? Keith used to love going to the River Weaver and while others have drifted off to commercial fisheries, he has stuck to this venue and surrounding fisheries.

It’s no surprise, then, that he has had great success over the years and continues that to this day, taking second in the latest Northwich DAA match fished on the Willow Beds length with tip tactics netting him 7lb 4oz.

TODMORDEN AS’s Christmas match will be fished on Croft and Townhouse Fisheries on Sunday, December 11. The draw will take place at 9am at the Falcon Hotel, Littleborough, with the match fished from 10am to 1pm. Tickets are available from Tight Lines in Shaw and Rochdale Angling. Price is just £6, which includes the pools money and pie and peas supper.

Next year’s membership cards will be on sale from Tight Lines and Rochdale Angling from December 12.
