CRICKET: MICKLEHURST, back in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League next season after an eight-year absence, face a trip to holders Bamford Fieldhouse in the first round of the 2012 Tanner Cup.
It is a tough introduction for the Castle Lane club, who have won the competition on 11 previous occasions.
Micklehurst, who quit to join the Huddersfield League in 2005, go head-to-head with the Hollin Lane outfit on Saturday, May 19. The winners of the tie will visit Austerlands (bye) in round two.
Beaten finalists last August, Heyside count on home advantage in the opening stage.
They meet Saddleworth in a repeat of this year’s Twenty20 Cup final, which the lads from Well-i-Hole won in a canter.
The draw also pits Hollinwood at Greenfield, while Moorside entertain Droylsden, Shaw are away to Stayley and Glodwick welcome Uppermill.
THE draw is no more kind to Micklehurst in the opening round of the Twenty20 Cup.
In the knock-out competition sponsored by 20-20 Vision of Uppermill, they make the short journey to holders Saddleworth on Friday, June 8. Heyside, who were denied in a hat-trick of wins in the competition after defeat in the final, play host to Glodwick.
