NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: MOSSLEY cruised to a 6-0 home victory over Wakefield in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.
Two goals in the first eight minutes put the Lilywhites well on their way to three points at Seel Park, with Ben Richardson breaking the deadlock from close range and Cavell Coo rifling home soon afterwards.
The visitors did their best to gain a foothold in proceedings and Anthony Owens was thwarted by goalkeeper Martin Pearson. But Gareth McClelland’s side were in control and could have scored even more than their eventual total had it not been for the efforts of Wakefield stopper Tom Taylor.
Steve Halford hammered the ball home via the underside of the crossbar just before the break to extend the lead, much to the delight of the Seel Park faithful.
Mossley were out of sight after an hour, when Danny Queeley netted from 10 yards after a goalmouth scramble. It went from bad to worse for hapless Wakefield 10 minutes later, Tom Ingham beating several men before unleashing an unstoppable effort from 20 yards which flew past Taylor.
Mike Smith almost bagged a consolation goal for the away outfit, only to see his long-range drive cannon back off the post.
With two minutes left on the clock prolific forward Osebi Abadaki sprung the offside trap and cooly converted. There was even time for Lee Rick to see his penalty saved by Taylor after the goalkeeper had fouled Abadaki in the penalty area.
CHADDERTON edged out Cheadle Town 1-0 in the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One Trophy second round.
Paul Buckley's men won the tie after extra-time, with Chris Pauley slotting home in the 98th minute following good work from Matthew Chadwick.
Buckley said: “We are delighted because the conditions were difficult to say the least. It just didn't stop raining so the pitch was very heavy in extra-time. We played some good football and it was a nice bit of link-up play between Matthew and Chris for the goal.”
OLDHAM Boro also progressed to the third round thanks to a 2-1 win at Leek CSOB.
Karl Miller put the hosts ahead just after the half-hour mark, but Lee Knowles restored parity almost immediately after the restart. Knowles pounced again two minutes later for Tony Mills’ team with what proved to be the winner.
