BOWLS: SPRINGBANK gave themselves hope of catching Inbev Winter Bowling League ‘A’ Division leaders Waterloo and Taunton when they defeated their fellow title hopefuls 7-4.
Matt O’Neill (21-9) and Alan Hodson (21-10) led the way for Springbank, while Lee Turner (21-6) was the star man for Waterloo.
Nimble Nook caused the shock of the weekend when they defeated Hopwood 8-3. The third-placed side looked to be heading for victory when they led 3-1, but Nook, in the lower reaches of the table, hit back to win the last four games.
The division’s other match saw Springhead defeat Chadderton Cot 7-4.
New Street remained unbeaten in the ‘B’ Division, but it was a tight squeeze against second-placed Failsworth before a 7-4 victory was completed.
