TABLE TENNIS: ST MATTHEWS, leaders of Division Four in the Oldham Table Tennis League, extended their lead following a 10-0 drubbing of second-placed Honeywell ‘E’.
Juniors James Chappell, Callum Allman and Adam Thompson were to the fore as their side forged 16 points clear at the top. Saints appear destined for Division Three at the halfway point of the season.
Uppermill ‘B’, in third place, could only manage a draw at Werneth ‘F’. Peter Watson bagged a treble for ’Mill, while Matthew Kelly and Dave Jefferson scored doubles for Werneth.
The top two teams met in Division Three, with pacesetters Honeywell ‘D’ holding a strong Saddleworth ‘B’ team to a draw. There were doubles for Honeywell’s Rob Carter and Bernard Davies and also for Saddleworth’s Duncan Hadfield and Gary Crossley.
A maximum from Steve Evans and two wins from Paul Rourke helped Hollinwood ‘E’ to a 6-4 win against Werneth ‘D’.
