CRICKET: PLANS to spice up next season’s Wood Cup have been rejected by the Lake Garage CLL.
Royton and Norden submitted proposals which would have differentiated the league’s premier cup competition from regular CLL fixtures.
Royton wanted free hits following no-balls, in line with international one-day matches.
There was support for the idea at the league’s annual meeting at Middleton, but ultimately delegates voted 8-7 against introducing it next season.
Norden also tried to adopt an international flavour to cup matches with the introduction of power plays. Delegates voted 12-3 against their proposal and the competition format will be unchanged.
But Royton were successful in introducing free-hits into the league's Twenty20 Competition.
ROYTON’S John Cleary has been made a life member of the CLL.
President from 2006 until 2010, Mr Cleary’s elevation was unanimously agreed. So, too, were the re-election of senior officials.
Alan Wright remains secretary/treasurer, Neville Fletcher was voted in as chairman again, Colin Jackson is vice-chairman and Derek Ashford remains league auditor.
MATCHES in 2012 will start, as usual, at 1.30pm. Norden proposed an earlier start of 1pm, but this was rejected 9-6 by league delegates.
