MARTIAL ARTS:
FEARLESS Sohail Mahmood clinched two wins in the Junior World Martial Arts Championships in Cardiff.
The 10-year-old Yew Tree Community School pupil dazzled in the grappling and kick jitsu events and took top spot — despite facing older opponents both times.
This latest success story caps a fine year for Sohail — a member of Oldham’s Domana Elica Martial Arts Academy (DEMAA) — following several competition victories earlier in 2011.
Deputy headteacher Rias Bhatti said: “We are really proud of Sohail at Yew Tree, he has done remarkably well.
“We have children who have outside interests in a number of sports or clubs and we always like to celebrate their efforts and successes.
"We think it is really important that our pupils experience a range of activities.”
