Pride in defeat for Higgy

HIGGINSHAW gave as good as they got against fourth-placed Hindpool Tigers in Division Two of the North-West Counties League, before eventually succumbing to a 22-12 defeat.
The visitors to Barrow produced a big defensive effort and hit back to draw level after finding themselves 12 points adrift in the first half.
Gareth Brindley went close for Higgy between two converted tries from Hindpool. They were finally rewarded with a score of their own. New signing Kiel Lancashire producing a quick ball for Lee Burke, who in turn sent in Sean Whitmore. Lancashire converted from the touchline.
Needing an early score in the second half to keep up the pressure, Lancashire, who played for Oldham St Anne’s in the National Conference League’s interim season, burst through the cover defence to Paul Turner away for a try Lancashire added the extras to level the scores at 12-12.
Higgy’s hopes of causing an upset were dashed from the restart when Hindpool capitalised on an error to record a converted try. They touched down again moments later to seal victory.
Man-of-the-match Paul Turner, Mark Ward and Steve Perry worked hard in a bid to kick-start another Higgy comeback, while Jack Hughes was stopped just short of the line after Jack Donbavand had charged down a kick.
