ON the charge: Arron Burke, of Fitton Hill Bulldogs, makes ground.
RUGBY:
FITTON Hill Bulldogs pushed pacesetters Woolston Rovers ‘A’ all the way in Division Four of the North-West Counties League.
Mick Whaley’s improving side lost 18-14 after they had a last-minute try disallowed.
“David Brooks was held up over the line,” said coach Whaley. “We were a bit unlucky, but it was the right call by the referee. Again I can’t fault the players for effort. The forwards and defenders were very good. I don’t think we’ve been beaten by more than 15 points in any of our games so far this season. That just shows the progress they have made.”
Josh Hulme, who is a member of the Oldham RL Club’s under-18s extended scholarship squad, bagged a brace of tries and Martin Swain got the other. Swain also kicked a goal.
