BRIAN Lord bagged four goals as Crompton Victoria pulled off a shock victory over Legends in the third round of the D and J Builders (North- West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League President's Trophy.
Just as Parkside's Jason Stone had done in Parkside's defeat of Willow Tavern a week earlier, Lord displayed a clinical edge in claiming his four-goal haul.
Arguably the best of Lord's strikes was his second goal, an audacious chip from 20 yards out following a Tom Sellers pass. Known to his team mates as 'Chesney' after one-hit singing wonder Chesney Hawkes, Lord proved that on the day of a major cup upset he was most definitely the one and only.
Victoria, riding high in Division Three, overcame their similarly in-form David Giblin Division One opponents on the back of precision finishing. But this was an intriguing tie as soon the draw was made and not just because of the potential for an upset.
Legends pride themselves on being a predominantly over-30s side, with Rick Casey and Jason Glasgow both aged 41.
Victoria's is a side blended with youth and experience, the latter provided in abundance by 54-year-old Bob Murphy, who again defied his years with a fine display at centre-half.
