Royton’s pool of young talent

ROYTON Water Polo Club have plenty to shout about. The under-16s team scooped a terrific silverware double, while the under-12s finished runners-up in the league and were beaten in the final of the cup.

The club also celebrated individual success. Dylan Green and Remmy Gorton, who are both 14, have been training with the boys’ Great Britain development squad. Not to be outdone, Anna Lord (13) and Lucy Thomas (11) have landed places in the GB development squad after impressing at trials in Cardiff.

The under-16s swept the board in the Bolton and District Junior Water Polo League.

Boasting a 100-per-cent record in the league, the under-16s defeated Tyledsley 15-6 in the final of the Knock-out Cup at Broughton Pool, Salford.

The teenagers are on course to add to their trophy haul next month by claiming the Manchester and District League title.

The club’s future looks bright, with the under-12s able to take heart from their performances in filling second place in the league and losing by a narrow 10-8 margin to Bolton School in the Knock-out Cup final.

Royton Water Polo secretary Michelle Flint said: “We’re very proud of the achievements of both the under-12 and under-16 teams. They work hard in training and it has paid off with the results. Ella Chadderton and Joe O’Regan have come through our junior ranks and are now in the Great Britain national team, so that gives the youngsters something to aspire to.”
