Double joy for splendid Saddleworth

TABLE TENNIS:
SADDLEWORTH Cricket Club ‘A’ completed an impressive double over Division One leaders and reigning champions Glodwick ‘A’ in the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.
Paul Cicchelli recorded a treble and was ably supported by Ian McLean (two) and Duncan Hadfield in the 6-4 win.
Mark Ramsbottom (two) and Andy Jackson replied for the Glodwick, while Jeff Craighill had a rare off-night.
In a closely-fought inter-club match, Hollinwood ‘C’ beat their ‘B’ team 6-4, thanks to a treble from Jack Christian, two from Dave Cheetham and a Gary Blackhurst single.
Paul King, with two, and Nathan Buckley replied for the ‘B’ team as five of the games went the full distance.
In Division Two, Steve Hilton continued his impressive form for Hyde YMCA ‘B’, bagging another treble.
However, Hilton’s efforts were in vain as Hollinwood ‘D’ recorded a 6-4 victory, thanks to Peader McKinstry (two) Steve Hathaway (two) and Joe Redikin.
Uppermill ‘A’ kept up the pressure on Werneth ‘C’ at the top of the table with a 6-4 win at home to Droylsden. Laurence Lewis-Hanna registered a hat-trick for the visitors.
Dave Grundy, Pete Watson and Keith Moores recorded doubles for Uppermill.
Meanwhile, Werneth ‘C’ suffered a surprise 6-4 defeat to Honeywell ‘C’, despite a treble from Mike Pellowe.
Deaf Club ‘A’, third in Division Three, secured a fine 8-2 success at fourth-placed Hollinwood ‘E’.
Ian Cockcroft (three) Liaqat Ali (two) and Dave Varney (two) did the damage, while John Foster and Paul Rourke replied for the hosts.
At the other end of the table, Grotton ‘B’ defeated Coldhurst ‘C’ 6-4, courtesy of a Steve Smith treble and singles from Alf Barker and Neil Tomlinson.
