Despair for Shinny
Date published: 12 December 2011
SHINNY Bayaar took Chris Edwards the distance but failed to bring his opponent's British and Commonwealth flyweight titles back to Oldham after a unanimous points verdict defeat at Peterlee Leisure Centre.
For Edwards it was revenge for the Mongolian's victory in 2009. Bayaar, fighting for the first time in almost a year, held his own but rarely threatened to make a decisive breakthrough.
Cuts to his nose and cheekbone early on in the encounter hardly helped his cause.
But his trainer Jack Doughty had no complaints about the verdict and felt his charge (34) never hit the heights of bygone years.
He said: "Unfortunately Shinny was completely outworked. Chris Edwards is a light puncher — your mother-in-law could take his shots — but he just kept going and Shinny couldn’t hold him back.
"It was very disappointing and to be perfectly honest he was never in the fight, save for a few moments in the final three rounds.”
Doughty refused to use Bayaar's 12-month absence from the ring as an excuse for a below-par performance.
He added: "Shinny is the only boxer I work with who does not need any help with his fitness because he is a fitness instructor.”
With Bayaar’s future up in the air, Doughty expects the veteran to make a decision soon.
"Shinny will discuss his next move with his family before making any big announcements," he continued.
