ATHLETICS:
IAN McBride capped a fantastic season with Royton Road Runners by sweeping the board at the club’s awards night.
In addition to becoming marathon champion for his superb two hours 40 minutes run at Edinburgh in May and overall club champion for the first time, McBride was voted joint club runner of the year alongside June Allingan.
This award is presented to the person deemed to have made the biggest contribution to the club during the year and is voted for by all club members.
An exciting awards night also included presentation of a cheque for more than £3,300 to Jackie Conboy, executive manager at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. The money was raised by club members during the year.
Dr Kershaw’s was confirmed as the club’s charity for 2012.
The club announced the introduction of a new form of recognition for members. Anyone who has run 50 or more races in the club championship since it was founded in 2003 received a special ‘50 Club’ shirt.
And one member, Bernard Goodwin, became the first and so far only member of the ‘100 Club’.
