Non-league FOOTBALL:

TOM Denton opened his account for Mossley — but it was a bad day at the office for the Lilywhites as they lost 4-1 at Salford City in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.

Targetman Denton, who stands at 6ft 7in, levelled matters with 11 minutes on the clock to cancel out Danny Heffernan’s ninth-minute opener.

But Ben Beresford restored the lead for the hosts just before the hour mark and he pounced again 10 minutes later.

Any hope of Gareth McClelland’s visitors regaining a foothold in proceedings disappeared altogether when, with 10 minutes remaining, Gavin Salmon netted for Salford.

OLDHAM Boro roared to a 4-1 triumph at Eccleshall in the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One. William Buckley broke the deadlock after 19 minutes and Redmond Parker doubled the advantage with 36 minutes gone.

Tom Wakefield’s 64th minute strike gave the home outfit a glimmer of hope, but Lee Knowles hit the target shortly afterwards to give Tony Mills’ side some breathing space. Alex Dibley put the outcome beyond doubt by getting his name on the scoresheet in the dying minutes.

CHADDERTON’S home clash with Northwich Villa in the NWCL Division One was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
