TABLE TENNIS:
SADDLEWORTH ‘A’ have cut Glodwick’s lead to four points at the top of Division One in the Oldham Table Tennis League.
While the lads from Well-i-Hole were sweeping aside Honeywell ‘B’ 9-1, Glodwick could only manage a 6-4 win at Werneth ‘A’.
Mark Ramsbottom (two), Khamal Hussain (two) and Andy Jackson secured victories for the reigning champions. But they all lost to Darryl Meredith, who returned to action after a three-week break.
Stuart Meredith also had an excellent straight sets win against Jackson.
Hollinwood ‘A’ recorded a 9-1 victory at Rosehill. They are now above Honeywell ‘A’, who lost 7-3 at Werneth ‘B’.
In an exact reversal of the earlier fixture between the two sides, Werneth ‘B’ beat Honeywell ‘A’ 7-3. Gary Skinner won his three and Mandy Winskill two. Dave Buckley replied with two wins, although he almost made it three. He was two games down to Gary Skinner, before levelling the match at 2-2.
Buckley then found himself trailing 9-5 in the fifth, only to hit back to lead 10-9. However, Skinner pulled through to win.
In Division Two, Unison ‘A’ climbed to third place after 7-3 and 6-4 wins against Hollinwood ‘D’ and Uppermill ‘A’ respectively.
Lifted by the double, they go in to the Christmas and New Year break just three points behind second-placed Uppermill. Droylsden, with a maximum from Miles Benjamin, defeated Grotton ‘A’ 6-4.
