ANGLING: PHIL Hulme made it three successive victories as he clinched top spot in the Chadderton Mill AC match contested on the club water. Hulme bagged 34lb of ide and carp. Aiden Bordiak (Tight Lines) was second with an all-ide 33lb net, which pushed John Pearson (26lb) into third.
THERE was a good turnout for the Northern AA open match on a patchy Goyt Mill length of the Macclesfield Canal, where winner Howard Kitchen weighed in 10 perch for 13lb 9oz.
Brian Meadows was second with bread punch at 11 metres catching him 3lb 8oz 8drams of small roach, followed by Billy Hansen’s 3lb 5oz.
DAZ Taylor won the first of two Todmorden AS open matches.
He claimed 7lb 4oz 14drams on the Lorry Park length of the Rochdale Canal, having caught roach and the odd skimmer.
Steve Crossley followed with a similar net which added up to 7lb 4oz 5drams, while John Meredith (7lb 1oz 8drams) fished caster to catch roach.
The second match took place on the Queensway length of the Rochdale Canal, with Joe Lawrence leading the way.
He mustered 15lb 9oz 8drams of skimmers and roach.
Runner-up Frank Szakaley’s bread punch and caster approach plundered plenty of roach totalling 8lb 6oz, while Daz Kershaw took third with 7lb 3oz of caster roach.
WITH deep sadness I write that Cliff Winterbottom has passed away.
Cliff had been seriously ill for a while but even through that he carried on with his tireless work for Twingates AC.
He first became associated with the now defunct Osram AC back in the 1960s when he was a committee member.
Some of the roles Cliff has had during his time with the club include match secretary, bailiff and chairman, and he ran the matches including the Wednesday OAPs events.
He was club champion in 1995 and was instrumental in saving them from winding-up.
The club changed their name to Twingates AC and Cliff carried on his hard work.
It would be fair to say that the club was his life and I know speaking to their anglers that he will be sadly missed.
If anyone wishes to pay their respects, the funeral is on Wednesday, January 4, at Hollinwood Crematorium (1pm), after which people are invited to go to Crompton Cricket Club.
