Jamie Brown: front runner?
BOXING:
TRAINER Ben Lancaster has tipped Jamie Brown to be one of Oldham’s leading lights in 2012.
The 25-year-old got his professional career off to a winning start after a convincing points victory over Scunthorpe scrapper Steve Spence at the Jolly Boys show at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium.
His second bout is being lined up for next month and Lancaster believes his light-welterweight charge is one to watch.
He said: “I am very hopeful about Jamie’s chances of making a name for himself as a professional fighter. His first fight could hardly have gone better, he comfortably won every round and looked full of confidence. Hopefully he can gather momentum with another win. We are looking at February for his next fight.
“It is great to see another promising boxer emerge from Oldham. Jamie’s brother Grant is a former junior ABA champion so he has got boxing in his genes.”
