AMATEUR FOOTBALL:
PAUL Stevenson bagged four goals as Springhead produced a terrific display, hammering Dukinfield Town 6-0 in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.
The home side were fantastic from the first whistle resulting in some exhilarating football to which Dukinfield had no answer. Springhead had already missed good chances from Richard Bennett, Mark Ashworth and Stevenson when they took the lead after 17 minutes. Dale Jackman’s cross was headed back across goal for Josh Walker to nod past the goalkeeper from close range.
Stevenson doubled the advantage 10 minutes later when he buried the ball from close range, and Bennett extended the lead before half-time, latching on to Walker’s pinpoint through-ball.
Stevenson got his brace after an hour, firing home a free-kick, before completing his hat-trick with 20 minutes remaining following good work from skipper Joe Cunningham.
His fourth was an instinctive strike from 20 yards, putting the icing on the cake.
Springhead are now ninth in the table, with 22 points to their name and, thanks to this result, a much-improved goal difference.
Elsewhere, Royton Town slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Prestwich Heys.
Division One action saw in-form Hollinwood earn a 1-1 draw at home to Elton Vale.
