Swift start puts Titans on right road

BASKETBALL: A RAPID start put Oldham Titans under-16s in the driving seat at home to Newcastle Eagles in the North Conference of the England Basketball League.
Leading 20-6 at the end of the opening quarter, the teenagers went on to seal an impressive 97-41 victory.
Just three points separated the two sides when they met in October, but it was a different story this time. Titans dominated, with Sam Atkinson taking advantage of gaps at the back.
David Walsh finished the game with a three-point shot, taking his game tally to 31.
Cheshire Jets IIs, the only team to beat Titans this season, are next up in a fortnight’s time.
OLDHAM Titans pushed Bradford Dragons all the way in the Men’s Division Four North Conference, before eventually succumbing 74-69 in the away clash.
The West Yorkshire side edged the first quarter 24-19 but Titans, carrying on their good form of the previous weeks, had narrowed the gap to a solitary point at half-time.
The lead changed hands in the third quarter, with Titans nosing in front by three points courtesy of Zack Allen’s impressive show.
Dragons fought back in the fourth quarter, and despite a big effort from Titans, the hosts took the spoils. Titans take on Burnley College this weekend.
