SNOOKER: OLDHAM Snooker Academy’s Aaron Davies has been getting his teenage kicks on the pool scene.
The 14-year-old from Royton got his new year off to a perfect start by clinching selection for England under-18s after successful trials in Leicester.
With his place in the national squad cemented for the rest of the year, all eyes are on April’s World Championships.
Delighted dad Martin said: “I think it is a brilliant achievement considering Aaron is only 14 and he will be playing with and against lads who are up to four years older than him.
“The squad of 16 go to Yarmouth in March in preparation for the World Championships. They will play warm-up matches and make sure they are ready for the real thing.”
Newman RC College pupil Aaron enjoys teaching opponents a lesson in his two favourite sports.
Martin added: “He doesn’t have a preference between snooker and pool, and has represented his country in both sports.
“Aaron is known predominantly for the progress he has made on the snooker scene, but he has come on leaps and bounds under his pool coach, Barry Broadbent. He is excited about the year ahead and would love to play a significant part in the World Championships.”
