Luke Roscoe - injury
RUGBY UNION: OLDHAM RUFC’S match away to Tarleton firsts in North Lancashire Division One was abandoned after only 11 minutes following a serious neck and back injury sustained by the visitors’ back-row forward, Luke Roscoe.
Roscoe was hurt by a tackle on the halfway line and Oldham physio Lorna Jepson wasted no time in fitting a neck brace.
After consulting the referee, the pair agreed an ambulance was required and that Roscoe should not be moved.
Staff at nearby Preston Hospital were alerted and an air-ambulance helicopter landed on the pitch.
Medical experts gave the player treatment on the pitch before taking him to the hospital.
The time was then 3.25pm and the referee, after speaking to the two captains, decided that with 70 minutes remaining play would not be completed before light faded.
Thankfully, Roscoe was able to leave hospital after tests and x-rays revealed deep tissue damage.
The game has been rearranged for Saturday week, February 11.
