Fightback show earns point

FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD extended their unbeaten run to seven games in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division with a 2-2 draw at Stockport Georgians.
The visitors, depleted by injuries and players missing due to other commitments, were lucky to come away with a share of the spoils.
They made a slow start and Stockport enjoyed the lion’s share of possession.
Josh Walker and Paul Stevenson did manage decent efforts for Springhead, but both were palmed away.
And with half-an-hour gone the hosts went in front when Connor prodded home from close range.
It went from bad to worse for Springhead when, on the stroke of half time, Stockport increased their lead, Gardiner bundling in at the far post after being left unmarked.
The away outfit were still under the cosh for much of the second period, but gave themselves a lifeline with 10 minutes remaining when substitute Adam Nuttalls saw his shot deflected into the net.
And in the dying seconds Springhead rescued a point, Nuttall feeding Richard Bennett who fired in from six yards.
Avro’s trip to Prestwich Heys was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, as was Royton Town’s home clash with West Didsbury and Chorlton.
In Division One, Hollinwood’s game at Rochdale Sacred Heart also fell foul to the adverse weather conditions.
DIGGLE enjoyed a 5-2 triumph at Shelley in the Huddersfield and District League Reserves Division One.
Reserves Division Two action saw Heyside earn a 2-2 home draw against Upperthong, while Uppermill ‘A’ won 2-1 at Scholes.
In Reserves Division Three, Uppermill ‘B’ ran out 3-1 victors at Hade Edge.
Diggle’s Division One clash with Holmbridge was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Uppermill had a blank weekend.
SANTOS suffered a 4-2 home reverse at the hands of Milton in the Lancashire and Cheshire League Division One.
AFC Oldham drew 2-2 with title-chasing Whalley Range, despite being two goals to the good (see John Gilder’s Match of the Day).
It was a bad day at the office for AFC Oldham reserves, who lost 6-2 at Mellor fourths in Division ‘D’.
