Early slip-ups cost Mossley

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL:
MOSSLEY went down to a 4-2 defeat at Durham City in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.
The Lilywhites, who went into the clash without injured duo Danny Hudson and Nathan Neequaye and suspended Ben Fallows, gave a debut to new boy Dave Young, but struggled with the difficult weather conditions. The game was played on the North-East outfit’s 3G surface.
Andrew Stephenson broke the deadlock for the hosts after 10 minutes, poking home from close range.
With 19 minutes on the clock the visitors fell further behind when David Dowson fired home.
It then went from bad to worse soon afterwards, Gary Brown converting a mis-hit corner, and Dowson extended the lead before the break with a neat finish.
Steve Halford’s side improved after the interval, and they got on the scoresheet after an hour when Mark Haslam rifled into the net.
And Haslam hit the target again in the dying seconds, although the game was over as a contest by that point.
IN the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One Trophy quarter-finals, frozen playing surfaces put paid to Oldham Boro’s trip to Norton United and Chadderton’s game at Wigan Robin Park.
