White-out at Clayton
Date published: 06 February 2012
THE big freeze was snow-joke for local sport, with a large dose of the white stuff putting paid to the weekend schedule.
D & J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League action on Clayton playing fields was a non-starter. Athletic’s home clash with Leyton Orient in npower League One was postponed because of a frozen pitch, as was Oldham RL Club’s friendly trip to Featherstone Rovers.
In the Challenge Cup, Oldham St Anne’s against Bentley Gold Companions and University of Hull versus Waterhead were called off.
Oldham RU’s home showdown with Birchfield in North Lancashire Division One also came a cropper at Manor Park.
