Angling:

DESPITE losing a few carp, Darren Webb emerged victorious in the latest Chadderton Mill AC Winter League match on the club water.

The Medlcok Bridge AC was drawn on peg 15, and he used the eight-metre pole and maggot to net a 14lb carp, plus a few smaller samples and the odd silver fish for a 22lb bag.

Alan Sixsmith was second-best, with two carp and some silvers on pole and maggot adding up to 8lb 10oz.

Graham Mitchell had to sit and suffer for the first two hours, but a better stamp of fish later on with single maggot at eight metres earned him 8lb 8oz of ide and carp.

Jim Evans caught a roach a chuck at one point, with bronze maggot working well for another 8lb 8oz return.

ORGANISER Simon Walton landed top honours in the Todmorden AS match on the Lorry Park length of the Rochdale Canal. He boasted one 120 small roach on pole and bread punch, which tipped the scales at 2lb 5oz.

Tom Barlow was also among the tiny roach — he had in the region of 200 — for 1lb 8oz. Yorkshire rod Stuart Campbell, in third place, opted for bread punch for a 1lb 1oz net of tiny roach.

I HAD a two-hour pleasure session on the Middleton length of the Rochdale Canal and, using bread punch at seven metres, hauled in 20 small roach and one skimmer for around two pounds.
