WATERLOO and Taunton fought off an end-of-season charge by Springbank to clinch the ‘A’ Division title in the Inbev Winter Bowling League.

Going into the final day of the ‘A’ Division campaign on the Chadderton Cot “carpet”, Spingbank needed two wins to keep the pressure on Waterloo.

But, after beating Hopwood 9-2, they slipped to a 7-4 defeat against Nimble Nook, losing the aggregate by a single point.

Waterloo needed only three points against Springhead in order to clinch the title and they duly won 8-3.

And Peter Fielding’s win for Waterloo clinched him the ‘A’ Division merit prize.

Kevin Newbury (New Street) won the ‘B’ Division award.

FOLLOWING a fortnight’s inactivity due to snow, Ashton CC returned to winter sweep action and the winner was Dukinfield ace Gareth Gwilliam, who beat Hyde’s Ryan Bancroft 21-20 in an excellent final.

In the semi-finals, Gwilliam beat John Blezzard 21-12, while Bancroft overcame Charlie Roberts 21-13.

The consolation final was won by the consistent Phil Bottomley, who defeated rising star Jack Hargreaves 21-17.
