Ace Mitchell weaves his magic after waggler move

Angling: GRAHAM Mitchell showed why Team Trabrucco, Halifax, were so keen to sign him as he produced classy display in the latest of the Chadderton Mill AC open matches on a back-to-form club water.

He started on the pole and maggot up in the water to catch the odd carp and some decent-sized ide, but it was a switch to waggler and maggot cast next to the false island which was the all-important move.

Mitchell caught a dozen carp up to 4lb, taking his winning weight to 64lb.

Lee Humphries (GTI Matchman) is another top angler who has been having a good season, and he was second.

Using pole and maggot fished shallow at 13 metres, he tempted seven carp, the biggest 12lb, and some cracking ide up to about 2lb to finish with 62lb 6oz.

Third was Phil Hulme with his 47lb 8oz catch including roach, ide and carp that fell to maggot and caster.

Jim Evans was the early leader, catching carp on corn tight to the tins. He eventually weighed in an all-carp 36lb 8oz net that was taken in the first two hours.

I HAD the pleasure of presenting the trophies at the Lees and Hey AS presentation, at which there was some good-humoured banter.
The honours list was –Billy’s Buses Trophy: Keith Adams. T Royston Trophy: Steve Sharples. Selwyn Cup: Stewart Taylor. Chairman’s Cup: Lawrence Kuras. Whams Trophy: Jack Cubby.

Andy Pass Pairs Trophy: Keith Adams and Stewart Taylor. Man Up A Ladder Cup: Mark Prestwich. Tight Lines Trophy: Paul Mason. Alan and Diane Steel Trophy: Stewart Taylor. Jays Wine Trophy: Steve Sharples.

Paul Edwards Cup: Keith Adams. Barry Wood Cup: Lawrence Kuras. Keith Adams Trophy: Stewart Taylor. Jim Clarke Big Fish Trophy: Paul Mason (9lb carp). Best Weight Trophy: Steve Sharples (38lb 6oz). Club Champion: Stewart Taylor.

TODMORDEN AS are having bream in the eight to 10-inch bracket stocked into Cliviger Top Pond, Portsmouth Reservoir and Ramsden Wood Fishery.
There will also be a stocking of carp some time in April and again it will be in several of the club waters.

Venue Guide
Ogden Reservoir: Day tickets on the bank and at Tight Lines, Shaw. Tip and maggot will catch you roach and the odd bream, while pike anglers can catch on most baits. Give spinning a go and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal: Day tickets on the bank. Warmer weather should have fish feeding. Give bread punch a try for roach and the odd skimmer.

Rochdale Canal: Fishing well for roach. Bread punch and caster the best baits, but squatt and pinkie catching good nets of fish.

Bardsley Canal: Day tickets on the bank. Maggot for silvers.

Chadderton Mill Lodge: Unbelievable weights in the weekend match. Carp and ide to maggot fished shallow on pole and waggler.

Alexandra Park Lake: Day tickets on the bank. Can be hard at this time of year, but mild conditions could switch the fish on the feed.
