Anglers Arms net shock win

FOOTBALL: ANGLERS Arms stunned top-flight Red Star with a 5-3 home victory in the D & J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League President’s Trophy quarter-finals.
Rob Walton and Lee Hanson scored two goals apiece and Matty Flint also netted for the David Giblin Division One outfit.
Joshua Cass, Mark Buckley and Ryan Hobin responded for Jack Abbott Premier Division side Red Star.
Lee Bennett and Ashley Young struck as top-flight Rifle Range ‘A’ progressed to the last-four courtesy of a 2-0 win at Division Three high-flyers Crompton Victoria.
Fitton Hill Rangers went through without kicking a ball, as scheduled opponents Chaddy End could not raise a team, while Limeside King George ‘A’ routed Highfield United 8-1 (see John Gilder’s Match of the Day).
Premier Division Shield action saw Coppice United ‘A’ thump Legends 6-1 in the first round.
Oldham Sunday League. Danny O’Connell helped himself to a hat-trick for United, for whom Steve Barrow, Naveed Butt and Abid Ali were also on the mark. Wayne Dean recorded Legends’ consolation goal.
CHADDERTONIANS edged to a 3-2 home triumph at the expense of Bury GSOB in the Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division.
AFC OLDHAM went down to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of neighbours Rochdalians in the Lancashire and Cheshire League Premier Division.
