ANGLING:

I SPENT a couple of hours watching the Chadderton Mill AC individual winter league fixture on their club lodge, and what a match it was with fish being caught on every peg.

Phil Hulme drew peg nine where the carp can congregate in numbers and they did in this match with Phil getting one almost every put-in.

Fishing 11 metres shallow with a variety of baits, he caught carp to double figures, finishing the match with 80lb 8oz.

That was way in front of everyone else although there was a real tussle for second place between Graham Mitchell (Trabrucco Halifax) and Paul Hill, with the latter in front until he ran out of bait.

Graham fished maggot in the water at 11 metres to weigh in 63lb 8oz of ide, skimmers, tench, chub and half a dozen carp, while Paul took third with his 50lb 6oz net including four carp and some big ide taken on maggot and caster fished at 13 metres.

With just one round to go, Darren Webb is leading with 19 points and can’t be caught. Phil Hulme is second with 21, followed by Jim Evans on 23 and Graham Mitchell on 25.

n DAVE White took first place in the Monarch AC members-only match fished on the club water with his 26lb 7oz catch including carp, ide and chub which all fell to maggot fished at various depths.

Second-placed Dave Ireland’s chopped worm and caster tempted chub and roach and tipped the scales at 12lb 1oz. Organiser Dean Pickering took third with his pole and corn approach tempting 11lb 12oz of carp and skimmers.

DAVE Williams (Rochdale Angling) took first place in the Todmorden AS open match fished on the Castleton length of the Rochdale Canal with his 3lb 13oz net made up of roach which fell to bread punch and caster.

Paul Booth (Trabrucco Halifax) was second with similar tactics netting him 2lb 9oz 14drams of roach, beating team-mate Martin Taylor into third with 1lb 1oz.

The next Todmorden AS members championship trophy match is on Sunday at Townhouse Fishery. Ring 01706 374689 or 0754 3883714. Draw is until 8.30am, with fishing from 9.15am to 2.15pm.

TOOTAL AC fished the Oxford Park length of the Ashton Canal and it produced a few decent fish with winner Alan Makin including two good skimmers in his winning net of 3lb 2oz. Second-placed Colin Williams included a big roach in his 2lb 10oz catch and was followed by Ken Buckley with a level 2lb.

TAMESIDE Federation fished their latest match on the Peak Forest Canal at Marple where Alan Makin took first place with a 2lb perch the feature fish in his 3lb 10oz catch. Eoin Wilson (lb 14oz) was second, followed by Ernie Johnstone (1lb 3oz).
