Geener sounds warning

RUGBY:

PAUL Geener, joint coach of Waterhead, has warned against complacency as his side aims for three wins in a row in Division Two of the National Conference League tomorrow (Sat).

The unbeaten Peach Road outfit head to basement boys Heworth, who have shipped 80 points in two games.

“It’s a test of character more than anything else,” said Geener, who is without full-back Alan Williamson and centre Carl Sneyd because of work commitments as well as second row Kieran Grennan (family duties).

“These are the type of matches we’ve got to win, but no-one thinks it’s going to be easy.

“Heworth will be smarting after the start they’ve had and will be desperate to get some points on the board.”

SADDLEWORTH Rangers will be confident of getting off the mark when they go to Leigh East in the Premier Division.

The hosts, like Emerson Jackman’s side, are still searching for their first points of the season.

Rangers were unable to hold on to a 12-point lead against Hull Dockers last weekend, but if they can maintain their momentum for a full 80 minutes a first win should be achieved.

OLDHAM St Anne’s are also hunting for that elusive first victory in Division One, but Chris Deakin’s troops will have high hopes at Stanningley, who sit bottom on points difference.
