Coppice United 'A' 1, Chaddy End FC 2
CHADDY End FC are on course for what would be a remarkable league and cup treble after a 2-1 victory over Coppice United 'A' in the Jack Abbott Premier Division of the D and J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League.
Shaun Roscoe bagged two second half goals in what was only Chaddy's seventh league fixture of the campaign, to defeat fellow title contenders Coppice.
But it was his team-mate, goalkeeper Danny Pearson, who stole the show with some decisive first half saves with the scoreline still goalless.
Chaddy have a Champions' Cup quarter-final date against opponents yet to be decided, while Langley Rangers are the opposition in the Manchester County FA Sunday Cup final at Eastlands on Friday, April 13.
Manager Danny Dorward said: "It would be great to win an outside competition as, for us, this is our 'Europe'.
"We have come close in the past and now we have another great opportunity."
Chaddy took another big step towards realising their treble dream in a scrappy encounter with Coppice at Crossley playing fields.
Pearson, a Coppice player three years ago, defied the hosts on three occasions in a somewhat mundane first period with vital stops.
It was left to Roscoe to lift the gloom on a sunny afternoon with a stunning 20-yard drive which arrowed into the top corner of the net.
Roscoe doubled Chaddy's advantage soon afterwards with a smart volley from substitute Matty Whittingham's cross, Steve Barrow replying for Coppice with a close range effort in stoppage time.
