More than a dozen teenagers took part in a Groundwork Prince’s Trust project at the Pollards, cleaning up the surroundings, clearing the way for a car park, weeding and painting walls and benches.
The fortnight-long process, carried out by boys and girls engaged in valuable work experience, has spruced up the ground in readiness for the new Lake Garage CLL season which starts on Sunday, April 15.
New Oldham CC chairman Simon Rice said: “There were 13 or 14 teenagers who have been at the ground for much of the last fortnight.
“They have been whitewashing the boundary walls, cutting unwanted bushes away where the bowling green used to be, clearing the area next to the entrance for the car park, weeding in front of the pavilion and painting benches. The place is looking much better.”
OLDHAM have announced a new skipper for the forthcoming season. Zaffer Jatoi will lead the side following the departure to Royton of former captain Chris McDonnell.
