Oldham’s drive-in with a difference
SHEILA Antrobus had a drive-in with a difference at Oldham.
The new women’s captain — she previously held the role in 1986 — donned an Edwardian costume, used a hickory shafted two-iron and a small Dunlop 65 ball.
Sheila’s vice-captain for 2012, sister Jane Antrobus, also got dressed up for the occasion. She wore a pair of plus fours, a flat cap, and a moustache and pipe.
The sisters’ mother, Edith, and father, Syd, had captained Oldham in 1969. Edith was also the first women president of the club at the age of 91.
Sheila holds double honours this year as she is also captain of captains’ of the Manchester and District Society of the past lady golf captains.
