RUGBY: CRAIG Sanderson’s try just after the hour mark broke Saddleworth Rangers’ resistance as they were beaten 50-16 at Siddal in the NCL Premier Division.
Emerson Jackman’s side found themselves 22-0 behind after 18 minutes, as touch downs from Chris Brook, Ross Coates, Liam Green and Scott Caley put the hosts in command.
Coates’ efforts emanated from his own 20-metre line with Rangers on the attack.
A try from Chris Yarwood — the prop was one of five under-18s in the visitors’ match-day squad — which was improved by Kiel Lancashire put Rangers on the board, but further scores from Coates and Matthew Batley saw helped Siddal forge a 32-6 lead at the break.
Rangers, seeking a first win in the league this season, were better in the second half.
Jimmy Rogers and James Whalley dived in — Lancashire added a goal — to reduce the deficit to 16 points.
Marlon Miller was then held up over the line as Rangers threatened again, but from the restart Sanderson scooted clear to score.
Shaun Blackburn goaled before taking his impressive tally to seven for the afternoon after Batley had completed his treble.
