FOOTBALL: THE derby clash between Oldham Boro and Chadderton in Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One ended goalless.
Visitors Chadderton, climbed a place to eight in the table, while Boro remained 14th.
Chadderton went close to opening the scoring when Keith Melvin narrowly missed the rebound from Chris Pauley’s free-kick.
Boro wanted a penalty but Melvin’s challenge on James Curley was deemed to be fair.
Curley nearly netted for Boro and Andy Kremner should have done better for Chadderton when he met Paul Socha’s corner and headed over.
After the interval Boro’s Lee Knowles nodded wide and Chadderton goalkeeper Dale Latham denied Curley, before John Rogers and Sean Sherwood threatened for the home outfit.
Saturday’s fixtures saw Chadderton beat Cheadle 2-1 at home.
Lee Bowles netted for Chadderton from an acute angle just four minutes in.
Socha doubled the lead after half-an-hour, converting Bowles’ cross, before Ben Brookes' 40th minute reply for the visitors.
Boro were beaten 3-1 at home by Eccleshall, with James Curley getting the consolation goal for Tony Mills’ men in the 24th minute.
KAYDE Coppin’s strike after an hour handed Mossley a 1-0 win at Cammell Laird in Evo-Stik League Division One North.
The victory lifted Mossley to 15th place in the table on 42pts.
Saturday’s action saw Mossley held to a 2-2 home draw by Skelmersdale United.
Tom Denton put the Lilywhites in front from the penalty spot after 22 minutes, only for Shaun Tuck to level matters almost immediately.
Steve Yarwood restored the hosts’ lead just before the break, but a Sean Williams strike after an hour ensured it ended all-square.
